Exercise, especially in the form of basketball truly helps in my case. I have been playing for many years now and I can really see the effects on my DP. Along with exercise, I experiment with mindfulness meditation. It helps in getting one back in touch with our body and reality.

My advice is enough exercise and multivitamins. It also helps a lot if you close your eyes and let your mind float to whatever place it wants to. Adequate sleep is also needed. This condition is tiring especially on the mind so you need sleep to feel better. I have been doing this for eight months now and it feels like I’m going back to being myself and doing the things that I want.

I realized that my DP is made worse by drinking coffee. A naturopath gave me a homeopathic remedy that cures “like cures like”. The cure given is actually made from coffee and I take it once a week for a few months. The symptoms would subside in around half an hour after taking the remedy. After a few months I feel like I am normal again. But you should always see your doctor for professional advice regarding this.

My newborn son has been such a great help in my DP recovery. I believe happiness is a huge key in curing this condition. Do something that you like. Treat yourself. Learn to enjoy. Practice the numb smiles.. they eventually lead to the real, felt ones. These little steps add up and will slowly take away your trauma.
